The church, under God's direction, is a body of Christians, with Christ as its Head, joined together for the purpose of divine worship, study of the Scriptures, and Christian fellowship. In pursuit of this purpose, we earnestly seek to magnify and glorify the Lord Jesus Christ. We want to share our faith with others, thus encouraging them to trust Christ as their personal Savior.
We are biblicists who believe that all our doctrines and practices should come directly from the Holy Scriptures, not tradition, experiences, creeds or theological systems. We believe that the Bible is to be interpreted literally, normally, and consistently.
As a Bible church, we are not affiliated with any denomination or religious organization, but we are an independent, fundamental, self-supporting body. We actively support missionaries in an effort to spread the Gospel of Christ through the world.
Terms with which we identify CBC are:
evangelical, conservative, evangelistic,
independent, (although very dependent on God), nondenominational, and orthodox.
Terms which do not apply to CBC are:
interdenominational, liberal, charismatic,
ecumenical, anti denominational,
and neo-orthodox.
CBC's system of church government is that found in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1 where the congregation is represented by a team of elders who provide spiritual leadership for the church.
CBC practices two biblical ordinances. One is communion (the Lord's table) by which we remember Christ's death on the cross for sinners. The bread and the cup represent Christ's body and blood. Guests of CBC who are Christians by faith in Jesus Christ are welcome to partake with us.
The second ordinance is water baptism of the believer in Christ. Water baptism does not guarantee eternal life, nor is it a requirement for salvation. It is the believer's public identification with Christ and His people and is a commandment of Christ for every true believer. CBC practices immersion. New members who have not been baptized since their conversion to Christ are asked to be baptized as soon as possible, in obedience to God's command.
Community Bible Church of Cumming, Georgia was organized in August of 1979 by a group of Christian people who desired a place of worship, fellowship, teaching, and service where Jesus Christ was honored.
CBC moved into its present building debt-free in 1986 and is committed to a debt-free building policy.
The Bible teaches that every Christian is a member of the Body of Christ, His church, universally. But it also teaches that every Christian should be involved in a visible expression of Christ's Body locally (a local church). Any person who desires to become a member of CBC must be a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ.
A Discovery Class is provided so that those interested in CBC may learn more about the beliefs, direction, and ministry of the church. Let our pastor know if you have an interest in membership and the Discovery Class.
CBC has an official membership. We ask people to commit to membership because Christ is committed to His church. He loved the church and purchased it with His own blood (Acts 20:28; Ephesians 5:25). Members of a local church should be willing to follow Scripture by:
1. Protecting the unity of the church;
2. Sharing the responsibility of the church;
3. Serving in the ministry of the church;
4. Supporting the testimony of the church.
(These things are spelled out more fully in the Discovery Class material)
