The "Light Force" is the group name for the junior and senior high ministry at Community Bible Church. The Light Force consists of teenagers from the seventh through the twelfth grades. The group's name, The Light Force, originated from Matthew 5:14, 16: "You are the light of the world. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven." The purpose statement of the group is "To Know Jesus Christ and to Make Him Known."
The group seeks to accomplish the goal of knowing Jesus Christ by meeting as a group for singing, prayer, Bible study, and fellowship. The group studies consist of topical issues that teenagers deal with today, considering them from a scriptural basis, as well as chapter-by- chapter studies from various books of the Bible.
Weekend retreats, camping trips, and one-day outings are taken at different times throughout the year to help build a closer relationship with God and with friends and to develop group unity.
The group's mission strategy is based on Acts 1:8, which says, ". . . and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth."
The Light Force applies their mission strategy on a three-year revolving basis. The first year they are involved in a local or in-state summer mission ministry, which is their Jerusalem and Judea. The second year they go out of state for their mission ministry, which is their Samaria. The third year they go out of the country, which is the uttermost part of the world. The fourth year The Light Force is back concentrating on a local or in-state mission ministry.
CBC’s summer mission ministry involves sharing the gospel by the means of Backyard Bible Clubs in neighborhoods or at Good News at Noon, a Christian soup kitchen in Gainesville, Georgia, and other work projects. Past work projects have consisted of setting up tepees at a Christian camp, clearing land and building thatched roof huts in the jungles of Belize, laying cinder block walls, and pouring concrete for churches in Costa Rica. The Backyard Bible Clubs use evangelistic tools such as sketchboard evangelism, Christian optical illusions, the Wordless Book, Bible memory verse games, singing, recreational games, and more.
The Light Force Bible studies, activities, and mission ministries are designed to equip the teens for the work of the ministry, to the building up of the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:12). The Bible is our only source of truth in our quest to live out our lives in obedience to Jesus Christ and spread the good news of salvation through Him.
CBC believes it is important to have families, corporately (adults and children), worshiping together. It is important for adults to set the example and for children to see the example of how to worship God at home, in church services, and in everyday settings. One way we try to achieve this goal is by having children meet with the adults in the sanctuary for the first part of the worship service, then children ages four through the six grade leave the service for their teaching time. We are currently using a curriculum put out by "Answers in Genesis".
